“It is an honor to be the first esports athlete on Team Oakley,” said Abner. “Oakley has quickly proven itself to be an authentic and committed partner, so I’m excited to introduce the brand’s offerings to my fans and engage with other athletes on their roster. We already have a lot in the works and I look forward to sharing more in the months to come.”
Team Oakley’s roster also includes NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, as well as Olympic Gold Medalists Mikaela Shiffrin and Chloe Kim, among others.
Though Abner is the first professional esports player Oakley has signed, the new deal is not the brand’s first foray into the gaming space. Last month, Oakley announced a partnership with Turtle Beach, a brand best known for its gaming headsets. Oakley also partnered with EA Sports and the Madden NFL ‘21 Championship series for a Derwin James vs The World event, a tournament which allowed athletes, celebrities and musicians to face off with the LA Chargers star and Team Oakley player each week.
